Reading and Writing in my Life. Do I Like it?
Do I even Know how to Read and Write?
Hey everyone, my name is Rogelio Hernandez, and I am currently a freshman at SDSU majoring in Psychology. I know that seems basic because a LOT of people are into psych, but it’s something I’ve always been interested in. I’m hoping to one day become a therapist or a counselor at a school to be able to help out others in situations I have also been in. Although psychology doesn’t really require a lot of good writing, it does require a good amount of reading, and reading has never been my strong point at times. It's something essential in our day-to-day life, and no matter where you work, you will need to read and write stuff. I have always been a decent writer to say the least, but reading is where it may get tricky, I have had many experiences with it, some good and some, well let me explain it.

When it comes to writing, I have always been a pretty good writer. if you give me a specific topic, or write about something I am really passionate about, I will easily get into a flow state and write without stopping. I mainly got good at writing when I was in 5th grade when I went to school in Mexico. My parents put me into a private school, and my goodness did we write a lot. Easily one or two essays a week, around 3-5 pages. ALL HANDWRITTEN TOO. Although it was a tough experience, it helped me become a really good writer both in English and Spanish.

It was a very interesting time to say the least. There was a lot of writing, and I felt like I was in 5th grade all over again. My teacher was really nice, and she taught really well, even though I got a 2 on the test...Anyways, on the other hand, reading has always been something I'm not really passionate about. When it comes to school topics, I am not the biggest fan, especially if it's a history book. I don't mind reading, but in school is where I do not really like it. Outside of school though, I tend to read books or articles that are align with my interests. For example, I am really into soccer, and I read A LOT of soccer books and articles all the time. The only other book I read is The Bible, but that goes with my religion. One of my favorite soccer books of all time is called "Inventing the Pyramid", by Jonathan Wilson. It really dives deep into how the tactics and formations are effective and honestly it in sired me to start getting my coaching license, which I am almost done with. When it comes to books like these, I will definitely not say no

Right now, I am taking RWS 100 in college, and up until now I feel like I am really going to enjoy this class. It seems interesting, and I am hoping to learn and improve my writing skills, while also become more open minded when it comes to reading. Maybe I'm not too excited about it, but I will go into topic with no expectations.
