Language

LANGUAGE, WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT? WHAT DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH ME

If you're reading this, I am assuming that you communicate with other people somehow, and try to talk with family and loved ones, right? I hope that's the case. Anyways, we all have different ways of speaking with other people in our communities, whether it be school, work or close relatives and friends. I myself am bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish. When it comes to family, since we are all from Mexico, it has always been in Spanish and nothing else, which makes me happy because it means I won't forget my roots. In Spanish, I feel like I'm more excited and show more emotion.

On the other hand, If I' m talking with people in my community, it's always English and I tend to be more serious for some odd reason. That's only of I don't really know the person, because I am very outgoing with friends. When it comes to talking with people, I'm familiar with, like Anzaldua stated in "How to Tame a Wild Tounge", I speak Spanglish. A mixture of English and Spanish. I am grateful I am able to speak both languages and live in a city where both languages are frequently used. I am able to help everyone if it comes to translating something, and for me, that is something very powerful that not all people can do. It's important for me to be bilingual.

As said in my previous blog, I am a college student taking RWS and read two articles with really powerful messages behind it. "Mother Tounge" bv Amy Tan and
"How to Tame a Wild Tounge" by Gloria Anzaldua. They give us different perspectives on how language has personally affected them and how they have dealt with their own personal problems. They were very intersting to read, and the titles really get you intrigued to what it is about. Mother Tounge reminds me of native languages and your personal roots and culture, and how you should never lose them. How to Tame a Wild Tounge is more about hardships when it comes to your personal languages. Anzadula talks about her own situations when it comes to talking, not knowing what type of English she speaks, and how it switches depending on who you are talking to. I agree with her in this one, because I understand where she is coming from. People not wanting you to talk your language, and in my personal life, people telling me to only speak English, or to go back to my country. The titles have a nice wordplay, and deeper meaning to them, which I liked very much
