Reflection

Image
Reflective Blog  Coming into this class, after reading the description, I felt like it was going to be similar to my AP Language and Composition class. Learning about rhetoric, writing long essays and reading various articles were some of the things I was mentally preparing myself for. I was a bit excited at first, but since I was thinking it was going to be like AP Lang, I was a bit nervous too. Oh was I wrong. It was the complete opposite and unlike AP Lang, I actually really enjoyed RWS 100. I learned new information and tactics to write even better, while also having fun doing it.  The assignments that I would engage in were very concise, yet made you elaborate and think thoroughly about what you were going to say. What I also liked a lot were the discussion boards. The reason I liked them so much was because after writing your thoughts down, you were able to read your classmates' thoughts and even get ideas from them to include in your own work. Important Beliefs, Goals and Values of Liga MX.

Image
"Los Jovenes Mexicanos deben de ser usados", is something almost all, if not every, Liga Mx fan has said once in their time of watching the league. Young prospects are something that fans value so much in the league, as we all believe that they are the players who do deserve a chance, instead of foreigners who are not even that good, and are really overpaid. If there is something all Mexican soccer fans can agree on, is that they'd rather play with a very talented 18-year-old, who actually runs and has heart to play, than a 27-year-old who, although has experience, plays with no passion and has no right to be playing for that team. A way the league has tried to implement the usage of younger players is with the "Regla de Menores", which is a law that all teams have to follow, where it consists of needing to obtain a certain number of minutes for players younger than 23 in order to not get fined.  Liga MX: ¿Cómo funcionará y que sanción recibiran los clubes que...

Money and Violence in Liga MX

Image
Although Liga MX is loved and watched by millions every weekend, there still some very questionable topics about the way it runs. You see, Liga MX owners aren't the best people per se, and the owners of the federation are probably even worse. Although there are the unicorns who actually do care about the league, the majority of them only matter how much money is in their pockets and how they can make even more money than what they already have. They are money hungry pigs who try to act as if they care. If the really did care, the whole fan base wouldn't be complaining about the way the league is structured, and how its flaws only ruin the sport in the nation on a bigger picture. What I mean is that due to these rules and regulations, the national team is the one who is getting affected mostly, and with that, Mexico will never be able to compete against top nations who league system is actually good.            The biggest problems Liga M...

Relegation and Promotion

Image
Relegation and Promotion in soccer can bring up so many emotions to one team. If you had a bad season, in most cases, you would relegate to a division with less competition and if you're in a division with less competition, and have a great season, you would promote to a better division. This format makes up many amazing stories for some and brings so much heartbreak for others. It's an essential part to any soccer league, except in Liga MX. In Mexico, there is no such thing as promotion and relegation, and it is something the fans have been protesting to bring back. During the Covid 19 pandemic, it was decided by the Mexican Soccer Federation that due to the economic crises, they would put a pause from relegation and promotion in order for a team to not maybe disappear and let teams have time to establish themselves economically. Although it sounds like a good idea, they have stretched it out too much, and lower division teams and fans of Mexican soccer have been demanding a c...

My Discourse Community

Image
As stated in my previous blog, I will be focusing on the Mexican Soccer league, or Liga MX, Mexico's top division of soccer, and where only the best Mexican teams compete. Although this can be a very broad community, there are so many ways that it can be considered as unique, with some characteristics that only fans of this league will know. The reason I believe it can be considered as a discourse community is because there are many features that only this leagues fans will know about and there are many ways fans of the league can communicate to others and even to the league itself. Although big, there are many reasons it can be a discourse community. Some of these fans are able to connect with each other through social media, specifically, Instagram group chats, like one I myself am in. I am part of a community who talk about Chivas, one of the more popular teams, and talk about how the team could improve and what they should do in order to become better, or just trash tell them b...

Discourse Communities in Soccer

Image
I know you're probably wondering, what on earth is that picture! At first sight, it may look like a bunch of people in uniform at a church service, and it's exactly that, but the bigger question is, why? Why are there people in uniforms in a church. For someone that has no knowledge of what is happening, they must think these people are crazy. For me though, that's a whole community right there. A community whom I can connect with so easily and have made great friendships thanks to this group. This is a picture of Chivas de Guadalajara fans, a Mexican Soccer league team, going to a church service in order to pray for their team. It sounds crazy, going to church for a sports team, but for these fans, this team is everything, and I am part of those people. I have been a fan of this team and league in general since I was 6 years old, and ever since then, I have not stopped watching it. I can probably name you the last 10-15 champions of the league. I am a crazy fanatic and w...

Mental Health Matters

Image
2011, it was a sunny Tuesday in Chula Vista, and I had just gotten back from preschool. I was ready to start eating, when my parents came up and surprised me with some soccer shoes. They were some black Nikes, and I was so excited to start playing.  Nike The Premier III FG - Black/White - Mens Soccer Cleats | My first team was called the dragons, and I had practice at 5pm that day. I remember jumping out into the field and presenting myself with my new teammates, and it was hard at first because I was the only Mexican player, and no one knew how to pronounce my name. Soccer is one of the most important aspects of my life, and I have had a love for the game for more than 14 years. I have played, watched and even coached soccer at one point. I still try to play to this day as a hobby, but man was I good back then. This beautiful sport has been able to shape who I am today, and it has helped my mental and physical health like I never thought it could. This topic stems from the ...
